Crypto security checklist for beginners
Crypto transactions can be difficult or impossible to reverse, so basic operational security matters more than clever trading.
Protect the recovery phrase
A wallet recovery phrase can restore control of the wallet. Never enter it into a random website, message it to support, email it to yourself or share it with someone claiming they need it to verify an account.
Secure exchange accounts
Use a unique password and strong multi-factor authentication. Treat unexpected login alerts, withdrawal requests and support messages as reasons to verify through the service's official app or website.
Check before sending
Confirm the network, asset and destination address before a transfer. For an unfamiliar workflow, a small test transaction can reduce the cost of a mistake.
Slow down around urgency
Phishing often relies on urgency: account suspension, a surprise airdrop, a limited-time claim or an emergency wallet migration. Verify independently before acting.
